![]() So have them perform a pressure check before they do a power flush. He said, you don't want them to perform a power flush, add coolant, and then you find out afterwards there's a leak in the system. Then if I notice my overflow tank marking is lower than when I originally marked it, take it to a dealership and have them perform a pressure check to make sure there isn't a leak first. He's recommending I mark the overflow tank, and drive it around when I begin driving the car for the season. He's not a fan of flushing cooling systems at all, and also said that factories make it a practice of adding stopleak products to the cooling products as a safety measure to new cars. I just called my mechanic and related the story. Or in other words I thought no, you don't do "power flushes". In addition, while picking up the Dexcool I stopped at my less than high-tech local radiator repair shop yesterday to ask if they performed power flushes? I was told, we drain the coolant, fill it back up, and keep on adding and running the engine until all the air is out of the system. Until I remembered reading that the manual also says to change the coolant every 5 years or 100,000 miles (whatever comes first). Then I started the car up and let it warm up to around 130 degrees and low coolant indicator light didn't come on. ![]() Even though the car is in still in storage I decided to purchased some Dexcool a few days later and filled it up to the marking. ![]() Opened the hood, and looked in the overflow tank and noticed the coolant was a few inches lower than the "when cold" marking on the overflow tank. Pulled out the owners manual and discovered it was the low overflow light indicator. A couple of days later I decided to move it over a little so started the car up, but this time the light stayed on and I could at least register the symbol in my head. The car made it home safely (no dashboard lights) and was parked it in the garage. On the way home a dashboard lite flashed on and then off very quickly while going around a corner as I pulled onto the highway for the ride home (about 70 miles). ![]() We just purchased an 06 with 6,000 miles on it. ![]()
